WHO IS REALLY ON TRIAL?

“God Himself is the Judge.” –Psalm 50:6 In all three eucharistic readings today, a type of courtroom scene is portrayed. The prophet Micah announces a cosmic court session. “The Lord has a plea against His people, and He enters into trial with” them (Mi 6:2). He demands to know why His people have turned away from Him, despite all the marvelous deeds and loving provisions He has bestowed on them. God says to His people: “Answer Me!” (Mi 6:3) The psalm response continues the cosmic trial scene. God “summons the heavens from above, and the earth, to the trial of...

Today, we pray for those who have abandoned their faith

Lord Jesus, today we bring to You Christians who have left Your fold by wilful choice. Lord, we pray for our dear ones who do not want to recognise You or worship You as God. We bring to You their doubts, anxieties, confusion and pain. We trust in Your mercy that they will be brought back and redeemed like pure silver. A prayer also for those of us who are standing by longingly and waiting for their return. Give all of us Your power, grace and strength. Amen.

Today, we pray for the jobless

Lord Jesus, today we pray for those who are longing for a job. We pray that these brothers and sisters will have the grace to pray and seek Your will when they apply for new jobs. May they never lose hope when a rejection comes. May they have the will and the grace from You to try and try again without giving up. Provide them and their families with finances for their daily needs. Tell them every day what should be done with their time, their lives. Amen.

Today, we pray for the elderly

Lord Jesus, today we bring to You the oldest members of our families and society. We pray that Your presence comforts them in their loneliness. Keep them focused on You, rather than on their aches and anxieties. We pray specially for those who are living alone. Watch over our parents and grandparents, Oh Jesus. May they have angels for their aid whenever they are alone. Help us serve them well, all their lives. Amen.

Today, we pray for homemakers

Lord Jesus, today we bring to You, all Your children who are homemakers. Lord, they often do the unpaid, thankless service no one wants to do, and do it lifelong. We thank You for these wonderful women and men who choose their families and their needs before their own success and a successful career. We bless their work-worn hands, Jesus. A special prayer for the mums, dads and relatives and the administrators who have made our own homes and institutions true homes of selfless love. Amen.
