“So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and favor and to find help in time of need.” –Hebrews 4:16 We see others and ourselves beset with problems, which don’t get better but get worse. Then we wonder whether God cares. We pray, and our prayers are not answered as we hoped. In fact, things often get worse after we pray. If God is blessing us, it seems impossible to recognize this. “They began to gather in great numbers. There was no longer any room for them, even around the door.” –Mark 2:2 In the Gospels, especially in Mark’s Gospel, we read about Jesus being surrounded by such large crowds that it was almost impossible to approach Him. Actual sin is any willful thought, desire, word, action or ommission forbidden by the law of God. PRIDE : Unrestrained appreciation of our own worth. GREED : Immoderate desire for earthly goods. LUST : Hankering for impure pleasures. ANGER : Inordinate desire for...

Prayer and fasting is defined as voluntarily going without food in order to focus on prayer and fellowship with God. It is when these two activities are combined and dedicated to God’s glory that they reach their full effectiveness. Having a dedicated time of prayer and fasting is not a way of manipulating God into doing what you desire. Rather, it is simply forcing yourself to focus and rely on God for the strength, provision, and wisdom you need. Moses fasted during the 40 days and 40 nights he was on Mount Sinai receiving the law from God (Exodus 34:28). King...
