“Herod is searching for the Child to destroy Him.” –Matthew 2:13 Modern-day “Herods” are still searching for children to destroy (Mt 2:13). These Herods gain entry to the home right under the nose of the parents, who are paralyzed or asleep on the watch (see Mt 26:40). Once the new Herods gain access to the home, they attempt to take over formation of the children in that home. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton prophesied in the 1800’s that evil would come into every home through a “black box.” There are many such “boxes” in the modern home. Television is a major...

“Anyone who looks lustfully at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his thoughts.” –Matthew 5:28 We who live in the “culture of death” are caught in a raging war for control of our senses. We are continually bombarded with sexual sensationalism. This is a serious problem, because we need to avoid sexual fantasies so as to avoid the possibility of punishment in everlasting fire (see Mt 5:28-30). How can we possibly avoid these “near occasions of sin”? We can’t drive anywhere without seeing huge billboards flaunting scantily clad women or men. We can’t walk onto a public...

He is with you in the fiery oven, in the stormy seas, and in the valley of the shadow of death. Trust in Him who will...

It is when these two activities are combined and dedicated to God’s glory that they reach their full effectiveness. Having a dedicated time of prayer and fasting is not a way of manipulating God into doing what you desire. Rather, it is simply forcing yourself to focus and rely on God for the strength, provision, and wisdom you need. Moses fasted during the 40 days and 40 nights he was on Mount Sinai receiving the law from God (Exodus 34:28). King...

Surrendering all to God is not a simple and easy thing to do. It is difficult, because surrendering means giving up. In our culture we are not taught to give up easily. We are mostly taught to hold on to things and press on to get, what we want. But, this is not how it works with God. The truth is that He is the one, who is control. When you surrender to God – your life, your family, or other circumstances, – you have to give up the control over them to Him. It is like you are no...
