Redeeming the time…
Colossians 4:5-6
5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. (WEB)
Seventy years may seem like a long time to live on this earth. And in some ways, it is quite a race that we are all running, but in the light of eternity, it is but a blink of an eye. In James 4:14, our life is called but a ‘vapor’…. Whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. (WEB)
In today’s Scripture passage, the Apostle Paul tells the Colossian church to walk in wisdom so that they can redeem the time. When we go about our daily activities, we don’t know who is watching us. Our co-workers, our friends, our neighbors and perhaps even the grocery store clerk where we shop. There are many people in our sphere of influence who are still ‘on the outside’ when our Father wants them ‘on the inside’.
My prayer today is that God would give us the wisdom to walk in grace, so that our lives would be seasoned with the salt that comes from God that would make what we carry attractive to those around us. May we be ready to give an answer of the hope that is in us at any time, being fully aware that our time on this earth is precious and short, especially in the light of eternity. May those around us who are still ‘on the outside’ be invited to come in to taste and see that the Lord is good! (Psalm 34:8)

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear: (WEB)
