WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO JESUS?

They “again reached for rocks to stone Him.” —John 10:31 Wednesday in the daily Scripture readings we heard Jesus say: “You are trying to kill Me” (Jn 8:37). Yesterday we heard: “They picked up rocks to throw at Jesus, but He hid Himself and slipped out of the temple precincts” (Jn 8:59). Today we hear: “The Jews again reached for rocks to stone Him” (Jn 10:31) and “They again tried to arrest Him” (Jn 10:39). Tomorrow we hear from Caiaphas, the high priest, ” ‘You have no understanding whatever! Can you not see that it is better for you to...

JESUS LOVES YOU TO DEATH

“They picked up rocks to throw at Jesus, but He hid Himself and slipped out of the temple precincts.” —John 8:59 Jesus is God, “I AM” (Jn 8:58; Ex 3:14). Human beings have no power over Jesus, unless it is given them from above (Jn 19:11). On several occasions, people tried to kill Jesus, but He avoided death (see Lk 4:29-30; Jn 10:31; Jn 8:59, et. al). Next week, the Church observes the Passion and death of Our Lord Jesus Christ at the hands of men. Jesus could have called down twelve legions of angels to swiftly rescue Him from...

ARE YOU FATHER-CHALLENGED?

“They did not grasp that He was speaking to them of the Father.” —John 8:27 Here’s a quick quiz from the Gospels of last week’s Masses. Who is Jesus talking about? Today: “I only tell the world what I have heard from Him, the Truthful One Who sent me” (Jn 8:26). Yesterday: “You know neither Me nor My ______. If you knew Me, you would know My ______ too” (Jn 8:19). Friday: “I was sent by One Who has the right to send, and Him you do not know. I know Him, because it is from Him I come: He...

UN-ADULTERATED

“The assembly believed them, since they were elders and judges of the people, and they condemned her to death.” —Daniel 13:41 We spend our time judging adulteresses rather than fighting adultery and the demons behind it. Our battle is not against human forces but against the principalities and powers, the legions of demons (Eph 6:12). Like Jesus, we should hold our ground against the evil one (Jn 8:6). “Resist the devil and he will take flight” (Jas 4:7). The first battlefield on which we attack the evil one is our own hearts. We must fight the Pharisee within us (Jn...
