ANY JEALOUS BONES IN YOUR BODY?

“Are you jealous?” –Numbers 11:29 The devil couldn’t stop the seventy-two Israelite elders from receiving the Spirit (see Nm 11:25-26). However, he hoped to be more successful by enticing the Israelites to quench the Spirit (1 Thes 5:19) through jealousy (Nm 11:29). Demons could not prevent a man from using Jesus’ name to expel them (Mk 9:38). Therefore, they tried to stop the continuation of this man’s ministry of deliverance (Mk 9:38). Once again, the demons tried to accomplish this through jealousy. Jesus is dead set against jealous people being sad at others’ successes and thereby saddening the Holy Spirit...

THE GOLDEN ARCH AROUND JESUS

“As the visions during the night continued, I saw One like a Son of Man coming, on the clouds of heaven; when He reached the Ancient One and was presented before Him, He received dominion, glory, and kingship.” –Daniel 7:13-14 In a vision, Daniel saw God’s throne in heaven. “Thousands upon thousands were ministering to Him, and myriads upon myriads attended Him” (Dn 7:10). Angels surround God’s throne and worship Him forever. Jesus told Nathanael: “I solemnly assure you, you shall see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man” (Jn 1:51)....

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

“There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens.” –Ecclesiastes 3:1 In the Old Testament, God appointed a time for everything, and we had very little to say about it. There were exceptions to the rule, such as Hezekiah getting fifteen more years to live (Is 38:5, 8) and Joshua making the sun stand still for a day (Jos 10:12-13). But generally the timing of events was set and we couldn’t do much about it. In the New Testament, the Lord has given us much greater authority over time. He has delayed His...

POST-BAPTISMAL DEPRESSION?

“The eye is not satisfied with seeing nor is the ear filled with hearing.” –Ecclesiastes 1:8 Few people would dispute the fact that the book of Ecclesiastes is the most depressing book of the Bible. It begins: “Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth, vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!” (Eccl 1:2) It ends: “Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth, all things are vanity!” (Eccl 12:8) Ecclesiastes depicts the utter emptiness and hopelessness of life without Christ. However, we who are baptized into Christ have been “delivered from the futile way of life” (1 Pt 1:18) to live the truly new (see...

SPIRITUAL ECOLOGY

“They set out and went from village to village, spreading the good news everywhere and curing diseases.” –Luke 9:6 The Lord has given the Church and her members “power and authority to overcome all demons and to cure diseases” (Lk 9:1). Many Christians have doubts about this, for they have not seen demons overcome and diseases cured. Are their doubts the cause of their powerlessness, its result, or both its cause and effect? The Lord did not simply command us to drive out demons and heal the sick. He called us to do this as a sign and proclamation of...
