Yahweh won’t forget His saints…

Psalm 37:27-28 27 Depart from evil, and do good. Live securely forever. 28 For Yahweh loves justice, and doesn’t forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. (WEB) Have you ever felt forgotten by somebody? If you were supposed to meet someone for a meeting and they didn’t show up? Or maybe, somebody forgot to acknowledge a special occasion of yours? No matter how you look at it, being forgotten is not a good experience. When somebody forgets us, somehow we feel a little less valuable to them. In today’s Scripture...

WHY THE CONFUSION?

“They will surely fast in those days.” –Luke 5:35 In Isaiah’s time, people were confused about fasting. The Israelites cried out to the Lord: “Why do we fast, and You do not see it? Afflict ourselves, and You take no note of it?” (Is 58:3) Isaiah prophesied: “Do you call this a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord?” (Is 58:5) In Zechariah’s time, people were also confused about fasting. Bethelsarezer asked the priests and the prophets: “Must I mourn and abstain in the fifth month as I have been doing these many years?” (Zec 7:3) The Lord answered: “When...

Hid from the wise and understanding…

Matthew 11:25-26 25 At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. 26 Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight. (WEB) When Jesus prayed to His Father and thanked Him for hiding ‘these things’ from the wise and understanding, what was He referring to? If we read earlier in the chapter, Jesus is talking about how He was rejected by the religious establishment of the day when they called Him a ‘glutton and a drunkard, a friend...

EVERYTHING

“They…left everything, and became His followers.” –Luke 5:11 Once St. Peter saw that Jesus, the Carpenter, knew far more about fishing than he did, he realized he didn’t need a boat or nets to have a great catch. All he needed was Jesus. Peter knew how to fish in the Sea of Galilee, but in an instant, he realized that in comparison to Jesus, he knew nothing. In that moment, Peter then knew that nothing brought fruitfulness like following Jesus in everything. The accomplishments of a lifetime of fishing didn’t begin to compare with what could be accomplished through obedience...

You are a temple of God…

1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you are a temple of God, and that God’s Spirit lives in you? (WEB) I find it interesting that the Apostle Paul seems a little perplexed when he asks this question to the Corinthians church in today’s reading… ‘Don’t you know that you are a temple of God, and that God’s Spirit lives in you?’ It is like he is saying (my paraphrase) ‘Hey guys, have you already forgotten who you are now? Your actual body is the very temple of the living God and God Himself actually lives in you!!!!’ I don’t...
