Our Father is patient…

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (WEB) One of the attributes of the fruit of the Holy Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23 is patience. The Apostle Paul also describes patience as a descriptor for love in 1 Corinthians 13:4 when he says ‘love is patient’. Patience is something we so appreciate in others when they are dealing with our own shortcomings. But patience can sometimes be in short supply when we ourselves are...

CREATED TO WORSHIP HIM FOREVER

“On the first day of the first month of the second year the Dwelling was erected. It was Moses who erected the Dwelling.” –Exodus 40:17-18 The grand finale of the book of Exodus is the completion of the Dwelling, the place on earth where God was most powerfully and intimately present. The plagues led to the Exodus, leading to the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea. This was followed by Moses’ reception of the divine Law on Mt. Sinai. This finally culminated in the construction of the Dwelling. The goal of life is to enter into God’s presence most deeply...

Faith that overcomes the world…

1 John 5:4-5 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (WEB) In Revelation chapter 2-3, Jesus addresses seven churches. With each church, there is a promise for all who overcome. In times past, I have been intimidated by these promises because I have felt that they were somewhat conditional in nature… ‘If’ I overcome, I will get a new name… ‘If’ I overcome, I will get a white stone,...

IN YOUR FACE

“The skin of [Moses’] face had become radiant while he conversed with the Lord.” –Exodus 34:29 In the Old Covenant, the unclean and unholy had the ability to contaminate that which was holy. For instance, if a person with leprosy touched a person without it, the latter person became unclean, even if they did not contract leprosy. In other words, unholiness was contagious rather than holiness. Jesus reversed this situation. Jesus touched lepers and cleansed them (Mk 1:41). Because of Jesus, holiness overpowered unholiness. Now holiness is contagious instead of unholiness. This reversal is why Jesus could say that the...

Grace, mercy and peace…

2 John 1:3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. (WEB) Grace, mercy, peace, truth and love. These are five amazing benefits of being joined with both the Father and the Son. Each one of these heavenly attributes are part of your birthright. You don’t have to earn them or deserve them. They belong to you because you belong to Jesus. If we struggle with the concept of inheritance, we may struggle to receive all that God wants to give...
