Be patient brothers & sisters…

James 5:7-8 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. (WEB) Two blogs ago I wrote about our heavenly Father’s patient heart and how mankind is the recipient of His goodness. In today’s Scripture reading, I want to once again re-visit this topic of patience but in this blog, I want to talk about how patience finds it’s expression...

WHO’S THE REAL PRISONER?

“Herod wanted to kill John but was afraid of the people.” –Matthew 14:5 St. John the Baptizer was a prisoner, but he was free, bold, prophetic, and unable to be manipulated. He bravely stood up to King Herod, bluntly proclaiming that it was wrong for him to live in adultery (Mt 14:3-4). He spoke the truth regardless of consequences. Herod was a powerful tyrant, but he was fearful, delusional, guilt-ridden, and easily manipulated. Herod appeared to triumph over John by imprisoning John for speaking the truth about his adulterous relationship with Herodias. However, John was victorious. John’s prophetic reproach reverberated...

Cast all your worries on Him…

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. (WEB) In today’s Scripture reading, the Apostle Peter starts the verse by saying ‘Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.’ If we have a distorted idea of what humility is, we might think we have to grovel in God’s presence or perhaps embrace some form of self-hatred to show that we are humble. Humility is not trying to be...

CELEBRATE LIFE

“These, then, are the festivals of the Lord which you shall celebrate at their proper time with a sacred assembly.” –Leviticus 23:4 The Lord has created us to celebrate His love. In the midst of our life of celebration, the Lord calls us to come together repeatedly for special seasons of celebration. The Church year begins with the celebration of the Advent and Christmas seasons. In the new covenant, we also celebrate the Day of Atonement (see Lv 23:27) on Good Friday, the day Jesus atoned for all the sins which have been or will be committed. Good Friday is...

Our Father is patient…

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (WEB) One of the attributes of the fruit of the Holy Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23 is patience. The Apostle Paul also describes patience as a descriptor for love in 1 Corinthians 13:4 when he says ‘love is patient’. Patience is something we so appreciate in others when they are dealing with our own shortcomings. But patience can sometimes be in short supply when we ourselves are...
