பொதுவாக யூதத்தாய்மார்கள் தங்களுடைய குழந்தைகளைப் போதகர்களிடம் கொண்டுவந்து ஆசீர் பெற்றுச்செல்வது வழக்கம். குறிப்பாக தங்கள் குழந்தைகளின் முதல் பிறந்தநாளில் இதை அவர்கள் தவறாமல் செய்தார்கள். இந்த ஒரு நோக்கத்தோடு தான், அவர்கள் தங்கள் குழந்தைகளை இயேசுவிடம் கொண்டு வந்தார்கள். சீடர்களுக்கும் இது நன்றாகத்தெரியும். சீடர்களுக்கு நிச்சயமாக குழந்தைகளை இயேசுவிடம் கொண்டு வந்து ஆசீர்பெற்றச்செல்வது மகிழ்ச்சிதான். ஆனால், இங்கே அவர்கள் கோபப்படுவதற்குக்காரணம் ‘சூழ்நிலை’. இயேசு ஏற்கெனவே இரண்டு முறை தான் பாடுகள் பட்டு இறக்கப்போவதை சீடர்களுக்கு அறிவித்துவிட்டார். சீடர்களுக்கு அது என்னவென்று முழுமையாகப்புரியவில்லை என்றாலும், இயேசுவின் முகத்தில் படிந்திருந்த கலக்க ரேகைகளை அவர்கள் உணர்ந்திருந்தார்கள். எனவே, இயேசுவோடு இருந்து அவரைப்பாதுகாப்பதும், தேவையில்லாத தொந்தரவுகளிலிருந்து அவரைக்காப்பாற்றி அவருக்கு ஓய்வுகொடுக்க நினைப்பதும் சீடர்களுடைய எண்ணமாக இருந்தது. எனவேதான், அவர்கள் பெற்றோரை அதட்டினர். இயேசுவோ, சிறு குழந்தைகளை தன்னிடம் வரவிட அவர்களைப்பணிக்கிறார். தனக்கு எவ்வளவுதான் துன்பங்கள் இருந்தாலும், கலக்கம் இருந்தாலும், அதிலே மூழ்கிப்போய் தவிக்காமல், தன்னுடைய கடமையை...

We pray for those among us who are living alone in this world – the singles, the married singles, the aged, the ostracised.
