Today, we pray for the silent helpers of Your Ministry

Lord Jesus, today we bring to You, Your silent supporters on this earth. Lord, bless and honour those who clean the pews, decorate the halls for worship, do secretarial work, wash the toilets and do odd jobs behind the scenes – the sound technicians, the volunteer staff, the drivers, the launderers, the babysitters and all those who faithfully and quietly support ministries with their time and money, for Your glory. A prayer for their families too. May their rewards come from You. And frequently remind each of us that each role comes from You, so respect all jobs, all brethren....

“FEED MY SHEEP” (Jn 21:17)

“In days to come, the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest mountain and raised above the hills. All nations shall stream toward it; many peoples shall come and say: ‘Come, let us climb the Lord’s mountain, to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may instruct us in His ways, and we may walk in His paths.’ ” —Isaiah 2:2-3 Today, many stream toward shopping malls and purchasing Websites, saying, “Come, let us finish our Christmas shopping” (cp Is 2:3). Many merchants hear this call and have answered it, setting up shop to...

Monday, First week of Advent

Is 2: 1-5; Mt 8: 5-11 Compare these two sayings from the first reading and the Gospel respectively: “Come, let us go to the mountain of the Lord”(Is 2:3) versus “I will come and cure you”(Mt 8:7)… it is in fact an integral part of the new paradigm of revelation that begins with Jesus’ coming. We are today reminded of the incarnational paradigm of our faith! From a state where we were expected to go in search of God, we arrive at a state where the Lord comes in search of us. ‘The Word became flesh and dwelt among us’...

AN ADVENTAGEOUS ADVENTURE

“No ear has ever heard, no eye ever seen, any God but You doing such deeds for those who wait for Him.” –Isaiah 64:3 We should take Advent as seriously as a new mother takes her pregnancy. The Christmas season is not merely a memory, celebration, or blessing, but a new, extremely important encounter with the incarnate Jesus. St. Charles Borromeo taught: “This holy season (Advent) teaches us that Christ’s coming was not only for the benefit of His contemporaries; His power has still to be communicated to us” (from Office of Readings, Monday of the first week of Advent)....

Today, we pray that more people will serve You

Lord Jesus, on this day we pray that many created by You, for Your glory, will come forward to serve You. Lord, You told us that the harvest is plenty and the workers are few. Use us in any and every way You want to. We pray for committed preachers, musicians and other lay ministers to be raised up for Your work. Let them be loving, honest and sincere servants who put You and You alone first in their lives. Amen.
