இயேசு மூன்றுமுறை பேதுருவைப்பார்த்து ‘என்னை அன்பு செய்கிறாயா?’ என்ற கேள்வியைக்கேட்கிறார். அதற்கு காரணம், மூன்றுமுறை மறுதலித்த பேதுருவுக்கு அவரது அன்பை உறுதிப்படுத்த இயேசு வாய்ப்பு தருகிறார் என்பதுதான். கடவுள் எப்போதுமே நமக்கு வாய்ப்பு தருகிறவராக இருக்கிறார். கடவுளுக்கு மனித பலவீனம் தெரியும். அவர் நம்முடைய நிலையை உணராதவர் அல்ல. நம்மில் ஒருவராக வாழ்ந்திருக்கிறார். நம்மோடு உறவாடியிருக்கிறார். நம்முடைய துன்பத்தில் பங்கு கொண்டிருக்கிறார். எனவே, அவர் நிச்சயம் மனிதர்களை அறிந்திருக்கிறார். அந்த வகையில் பேதுருவுக்கு வாய்ப்பு கொடுத்த இறைவன் நமக்கும் ஒரு வாய்ப்பு கொடுப்பார். வாய்ப்பு என்பது செய்த தவறை திருத்திக்கொண்டு வாழ வழங்கப்படுவது. செய்த தவறுக்காக மனம்வருந்தி, இனி அந்த தவறை செய்யாமல் இருப்பதற்காகக் கொடுக்கப்படும் வெகுமதி. அப்படிப்பட்ட கொடையைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டது தகுதி என்பதை, பெற்றுக்கொண்ட நபர் வாழ்ந்து காட்ட வேண்டும். பேதுரு உண்மையிலேயே அதை வாழ்ந்து காட்டினார். அவர் தன்னுடைய பலவீனத்தில் இயேசுவை மறுதலித்திருந்தாலும், இயேசுவை கைவிட்டிருந்தாலும் இயேசுவுக்காக இரத்தம்...
