சீடர்களின் குழப்பமான மனநிலைக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டு இன்றைய பகுதி. சீடர்கள் இயேசுவோடு இருந்ததின் பிண்ணனி, தங்களுக்கு ஏதாவது ஆதாயம் கிடைக்காதா? என்ற எதிர்பார்ப்பு தான். இதை மட்டும் நாம் கணக்கில் எடுத்து சீடர்களை விமர்சனம் செய்ய முடியாது. அப்படி விமர்சித்தால், அது தவறாக முடிந்து விடும். இயேசு தனது சாவைப்பற்றி அறிவித்தபோதும், துன்பக்கிண்ணத்தை குடிக்க இருப்பதாக சொன்னபோதும், சீடர்கள் அவரை விட்டுவிட்டு ஓடவில்லை. மாறாக, எதற்கும் தயார் என்று சொல்கிறார்கள். இரண்டுமே நேர் எதிர் மனநிலையைக் குறிக்கிறது. இந்த இரண்டுமே சீடர்களின் குழப்ப மனநிலையையும் உறுதிப்படுத்துகிறது. அப்படியென்றால், இவ்வளவு குழப்ப மனநிலையில் எது சீடர்களை இயேசுவோடு இணைத்துக் கட்டிபோட்டது? எது இயேசுவோடு அனைத்தையும் பொறுத்துக்கொள்ள தூண்டுகோலாக இருந்தது? எது இயேசு மீது முழுமையான அன்பு வைத்து, அவரோடு இருப்பதற்கு உறுதுணையாக இருந்தது? இயேசு மீது அவர்கள் வைத்திருந்த நம்பிக்கை. அவர்கள் குழப்ப மனநிலையில் இருந்தாலும், இயேசு மீது வைத்திருந்த நம்பிக்கையை எந்த விதத்திலும்...

கேளுங்கள், தேடுங்கள், தட்டுங்கள் – போன்ற வார்த்தைகள் நாம் செய்ய வேண்டிய செயல்களைக் குறிக்கக்கூடிய சொற்களாக இருக்கிறது. இந்த சொற்களின் அடிப்படையான பொருள்: முயற்சி. முயன்றால் நாம் பெற முடியாதது ஒன்றுமில்லை. அந்த முயற்சி தான், நமது விசுவாச வாழ்வின் அடித்தளம். அந்த முயற்சியைப் பற்றிப்பிடித்து விட்டால், நாம் இந்த உலகத்தில் அடைய நினைப்பதை நிச்சயமாக அடைய முடியும். நாம் முயற்சி எடுக்க வேண்டும். ஒருபோதும் சோம்பேறிகளாக வாழக்கூடாது. எதிர்மறை சிந்தனை உடையவர்களாக இருக்கக்கூடாது. இந்த உலகத்தில் நம்மை விட எத்தனையோ பேர் குறைகளோடு படைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் கடவுளிடத்தில் முறையிடுவதற்கும், சண்டை போடுவதற்கும் எவ்வளவோ இருக்கிறது. அது நமது பார்வையில் நியாயமானதாகக் கூட தோன்றலாம். ஆனால், அவர்கள் அதையெல்லாம் பற்றி எண்ணுவதை விட்டுவிட்டு, மிக உறுதியாக வாழ்வில் முயற்சி எடுத்து வெற்றி பெற்றிருக்கிறார்கள். வாழ்வை மகிழ்வோடு வாழ்ந்திருக்கிறார்கள். தடைகளையும், சோதனைகளையும் வலிமையோடு வென்றிருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் அனைவருமே நமக்கு சிறந்த உதாரணங்களாக வாழ்வில்...

“Do you want us to go out and pull them up?” –Matthew 13:28 The farmer in Jesus’ parable of the wheat and weeds says something I’ve never heard a farmer or gardener say before. He says that you shouldn’t pull up the weeds because “you might take the wheat along with them” (Mt 13:29). It seems that Jesus’ wheat and weeds are much more intertwined than those of other people.
