”சாவின் இருள்சூழ் பள்ளத்தாக்கில் நான் நடக்க நேர்ந்தாலும், நீர் என்னோடு இருப்பதால் எத்தீங்கிற்கும் அஞ்சிடேன்” என்று திருப்பாடல் 23: 4 சொல்கிறது. கடவுள் மீது முழுமையான நம்பிக்கை வைத்து வாழ்கிறவர்களின் வாழ்க்கை மட்டும்தான் நிறைவுள்ள வாழ்வாக இருக்க முடியும். துன்பங்கள், துயரங்கள், கவலைகள் இவையனைத்தும் வாழ்வின் அங்கம். இதுதான் வாழ்க்கை. அந்த துன்பங்களை எதிர்கொள்வதற்கான ஆற்றலைக் கடவுள் நமக்கு தருகிறார். துன்பங்களை நாம் எதிர்கொள்ள வேண்டுமென்றால், நம்முடைய ஆற்றலில், திறமையில் நம்பிக்கை வைக்காமல், கடவுளின் வல்லமையில் நம்பிக்கை வைக்க வேண்டும். கடவுளின் வல்லமையில் நம்பிக்கையில் வைத்தவர்கள் ஒருபோதும் கைவிடப்பட மாட்டார்கள் என்பது இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் வாழ்விலிருந்து நாம் அறிந்துகொள்ளக்கூடிய மிகப்பெரிய பாடமாக இருக்கிறது. இதையே புனிதர்களின் வாழ்வும் நமக்கு பறைசாற்றுகிறது. ஒவ்வொரு புனிதர்களுமே, துன்பங்களுக்கு மத்தியில் வாழ்ந்தவர்களாகத்தான் இருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால், அந்த துன்பங்களுக்கு நடுவிலும் அவர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு வாழ்ந்தார்கள். காரணம், அவர்கள் கடவுள் மீது வைத்திருந்த ஆழமான நம்பிக்கை. ”துணிவோடிருங்கள்” என்ற...

கி.மு. 600 ஆம் ஆண்டையொட்டி யூதா நாட்டில் வாழ்ந்த இறைவாக்கினர்தான் அபக்கூக்கு. வடக்கிலிருந்து பாபிலோனியர்கள் படையெடுத்து வந்து தாக்கும் ஆபத்து எப்போதும் சூழ்ந்திருந்தது. யூதாவிலோ நாட்டின் ஒற்றுமையும், நீதியும் குலைந்து, வலியோர் எளியோரை ஒடுக்கிக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். இத்தகைய சூழலில்தான் அபக்கூக்கு இறைவாக்குப் பணியில் ஈடுபடுகிறார். கயவர்களை ஏன் இறைவன் தண்டிக்காமல் விட்டுவைக்கிறார்? பொல்லாதவர்கள் நேர்மையாளர்களை விழுங்கும்போது இறைவன் ஏன் மௌனமாய் இருக்கிறார்? என்னும் கேள்விகளை அபக்கூக்கு எழுப்பி, அவற்றுக்கு விடை காண முயல்கிறார். பன்னெடுங்காலமாக மானிட இனத்தைத் தட்டி எழுப்பும் கேள்வி அல்லவா இது! ஏன் இந்த உலகில் தீமை? ஏன் தீயவர்கள் தழைக்கிறார்கள், நல்லவர்கள் துன்புறுகிறார்கள்? இக்கேள்விக்கு விடை காண முயலும் இறைவாக்கினருக்கு ஆண்டவர் தரும் பதில்: நம்பிக்கையோடிருங்கள். எனவேதான், மிகப் பிரபலமான இந்த வார்த்தைகளோடு இன்றைய முதல் வாசகம் நிறைவுக்கு வருகிறது: “நேர்மையுடையவரோ தம் நம்பிக்கையினால் வாழ்வடைவர்”. மன்றாடுவோம்: நம்பிக்கையின் நாயகனே இறைவா, உம்மைப் போற்றுகிறோம். நேர்மையுடையவர்கள் தம் நம்பிக்கையினால்...
