திருப்பாடல் 51: 1 – 2, 10 – 11, 16 – 17. இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் வாழ்வில், கடவுளுக்கு பலி செலுத்துவது என்பது மிக மிக முக்கியமான ஒன்று. அதற்கு அதிக அளவில் முக்கியத்துவத்தைக் கொடுத்தார்கள். லேவியர் புத்தககத்தில் நாம் வாசித்துப் பார்த்தால் பலி செலுத்துவது பற்றிய விளக்கங்களை நாம் தெளிவாகப் பார்க்கலாம். எதையெல்லாம் பலி செலுத்த வேண்டும்? எப்படி பலி செலுத்த வேண்டும்? என்று பல ஒழுங்குமுறைகளை இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள், லேவியர் நூலைப் பின்பற்றி கடைப்பிடித்தார்கள். ஆக, பலி செலுத்துவது இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் வழிபாட்டில் முக்கியமான ஒன்று என்பது தான், இங்கு நாம் அறிய வேண்டிய ஒன்றாக இருக்கிறது. எதற்காக பலி செலுத்தப்படுகிறது? கடவுள் நம்மிடமிருந்து பலி வேண்டுவதில்லை. அவருக்கு அது அவசியமுமில்லை. நாம் புதிதாக பலி என்று ஒன்றை செலுத்திவிட முடியாது. ஏனென்றால், நாம் செலுத்தக்கூடிய காணிக்கையும் அவருடைய அருளினால் தான் பெற்றிருக்கிறோம். பின் ஏன் பலி...

“Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You?” –Matthew 25:37 When Jesus comes in glory on Judgment Day, He will judge us on whether we fed Him by feeding the least of His and our brothers and sisters (Mt 25:35, 42). தவக்காலம் என்பது நம்மைப் பண்படுத்துகின்ற காலம். நம்மைப் பக்குவப்படுத்துகின்ற காலம். நமது வாழ்வை செதுக்குகின்ற காலம். தவக்காலம் நமக்குக் கற்றுத்தரும் ஒரு முக்கியமான பாடம் ”கொடுத்தல்”. கொடுத்தல் நமது வாழ்வின் அங்கமாக இருக்க வேண்டும். கொடுத்தல் இயல்பானதாக இருக்க வேண்டும். எதையும் எதிர்பார்ப்பதாக இருக்கக்கூடாது. நாம் கொடுக்கிறபோது, அது நமக்குள்ளாக வலியை ஏற்படுத்த வேண்டும். வலியோடு கொடுப்பதுதான் உண்மையான கொடுத்தல். இன்றைய நற்செய்தியில் கொடுப்பவர்களுக்கு கடவுள் எப்படி கொடுக்கிறவராக இருக்கிறார் என்பது தெளிவாகச்சொல்லப்படுகிறது. மற்றவர்களுக்கு கொடுத்தவர்கள், தாங்கள் கொடுக்கிறோம் என்கிற எண்ணத்தோடு கொடுக்கவில்லை. தாங்கள் கொடுத்தால் தங்களுக்கு பிரதிபலன் கிடைக்கும் என்ற எண்ணமும் அவர்களுக்கு இல்லை. கொடுத்தல் அவர்களுக்கு இயல்பாக இருந்தது. ஆனால், இடதுபுறம் உள்ளவர்கள் ஏதாவது கிடைக்கும் என்று தெரிந்திருந்தால், கொடுத்திருப்போம் என்று சொன்னவர்கள். அது உண்மையான கொடுத்தல் அல்ல. அவர்களுக்குரிய கைம்மாறை அவர்கள் நிச்சயமாகப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டார்கள். கடவுள் கொடுத்த இந்த வாழ்வில் மற்றவர்களுக்கு கொடுத்து வாழ்வதே, வாழ்விற்கு நாம்...
