“I am on my way to Jerusalem, compelled by the Spirit and not knowing what will happen to me there.” –Acts 20:22 St. Paul met with the leaders of the Ephesian church for the last time. They would never see his face again (Acts 20:25). Each of us also regularly see people for the last time. Under these circumstances, can we say what Paul said? Can we say that we’ve “told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth”? (see Acts 20:20, 27) Have we “insisted solemnly on repentance before God and on faith in our Lord Jesus”?...

திருப்பாடல் 68: 9 – 10, 19 – 20 ”கடவுளைப் புகழ்ந்தேத்துங்கள்” அனைத்து உலகின் அரசர்களே! ஆண்டவரைப் போற்றுங்கள், புகழுங்கள் என்கிற வார்த்தைகளை நாம் அடிக்கடி திருப்பாடலில் பார்க்கிறோம். ஆண்டவரைப் போற்ற வேண்டும், புகழ வேண்டும் என்கிற சிந்தனைகள் எதற்காக மீண்டும், மீண்டும் தரப்படுகிறது? இந்த உலகத்தில் வாழ்கிறவர்கள் மற்றவர்களைப் புகழ்கிறார்கள். உதாரணமாக, அரசியல் தலைவர்கள் பதவிக்காக, அதிகாரத்திற்காக மற்றவர்களை முகஸ்துதி செய்கிறார்கள். தங்களது மானத்தை விற்றாலும் பரவாயில்லை, பதவியை எப்படியாவது பிடிக்க வேண்டும் என்று முயற்சி செய்கிறார்கள். எதிர்பார்ப்புக்களோடு புகழக்கூடியவர்கள் அதிகம். சாதாரண பதவிகளுக்கும், பட்டங்களுக்கும் மனிதர்களைப் புகழக்கூடிய பலபேர் கடவுளைப் புகழ்வதற்கு நேரமில்லை. இந்த மனநிலையிலிருந்து விடுவிக்கப்பெற்று, கடவுளைப் புகழ வேண்டும் என்பதே ஆசிரியரின் அறைகூலாக இருக்கிறது. கடவுளைப் போற்றுவதும் புகழ்வதும் நமக்கு மிகப்பெரிய நிம்மதியைத் தருகிறது. அது எதையோ ஒன்றை எதிர்பார்ப்பது கிடையாது. கடவுள் நமக்குச் செய்திருக்கிற எல்லா நன்மைகளையும் நன்றியோடு நினைத்துப் பார்க்கிற ஓர்...

திருத்தூதர் பணி 1: 15 – 17, 20 – 26 இறைவன் வழங்கும் கொடைகள் இறைவன் நமக்கு பல அருள்வரங்களை வழங்குகிறார். ஆனால், அந்த அருள் நம்மிடம் தங்கியிருப்பதற்கு ஏற்ற வாழ்க்கையை நாம் வாழாவிட்டால், நிச்சயம் அது நம்மிடமிருந்து எடுக்கப்படும். அதுதான் யூதாசின் வாழ்க்கையில் நடந்திருப்பதாக, முதல் வாசகம் நமக்கு எடுத்துக்கூறுகிறது. யூதாஸ் அடிப்படையிலே எப்படிப்பட்டவன் என்பதை ஒருவர் உறுதியாகச் சொல்ல முடியாது. ஆனாலும், அவனுக்கு கடவுளின் நிறைவான அருள் வழங்கப்பட்டது. இறைவனுடைய மகன், தனக்கு பின்னால் தொடரப்பட இருக்கிற புனிதமான பணிக்கான கருவியாக அவரைத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கிறார். பெற்றுக்கொண்ட அழைப்பிற்கேற்ப வாழ வேண்டிய யூதாஸ், அதனை உதாசீனப்படுத்திவிடுகிறான். அந்த இழப்பு மற்றவர்களால் அவனுக்கு நேர்ந்ததல்ல. அவனுடைய நிலைக்கு அவன் வேறு யாரையும் குற்றம் சுமத்த முடியாது. அந்த இழப்பு மற்றொருவருக்கு ஆதாயமாக முடிகிறது. மத்தியா என்கிறவர் யூதாசின் இடத்திற்கு தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுகிறார். இறைவனுடைய அருளும், கொடைகளும் நமக்கு வழங்கப்படுகிறபோது, அதனை பெறுவதற்கு...
