யூதர்களுக்கு தங்களின் இனம் தான் கடவுளால் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட இனம் என்ற நம்பிக்கை இருந்தது. எனவே, அவர்கள் யூதர் அல்லாத புற இனத்து மக்களோடு திருமணஉறவு கொள்வதைத்தவிர்த்து வந்தனர். புற இன நாடுகளுக்குச்சென்று வந்தால், தங்கள் நாட்டிற்குள் நுழைகின்றபோது, காலில் படிந்திருக்கும் தூசியைத்தட்டிவிட்டுத்தான் தங்கள் நாட்டிற்குள் காலடி எடுத்து வைப்பர். புறவினத்தாரோடு உறவு ஏற்படுத்தினால் தாங்களும் தூய்மையற்றவர்களாகி விடுவோம் என்கிற எண்ணம் யூத மக்களிடையே இருந்தது. அவர்களுக்கு இறைரசில் இடமில்லை என்ற நினைப்பும் அவர்களிடையே மேலோங்கியிருந்தது. தூய்மைச்சடங்கு பற்றி விமர்சனம் செய்து, மறைநூல் அறிஞர்களின் வெறுப்பைச்சம்பாதித்த இயேசு, மற்றுமொரு விமர்சனத்தை இந்த நற்செய்தியிலே முன்வைக்கிறார். ஏறக்குறைய இப்போதைய தீண்டாமை ஒழிப்புதான், இயேசுவின் விமர்சனம். கிரேக்கப்பெண் இயேசுவிடம் வந்து, மகளிடமிருந்து பேயை ஓட்டிவிடுமாறு வேண்டியபோது, இயேசு சொல்கிற வார்த்தை நமக்கு அதிர்ச்சியானதாக இருக்கிறது. காரணம் அவர் கிரேக்கப்பெண்ணை நாயோடு ஒப்பிடுகிறார். நாய் என்பது யூதர்களால் மட்டுமல்ல, கிரேக்கர்களாலும் வெறுத்து ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட விலங்கு. அப்படிப்பட்ட விலங்கோடு,...

தூய எண்ணங்களை மனதில் விதைப்போம்

லேவியர் 11 ம் அதிகாரத்தில் தீட்டாகக்கருதப்படக்கூடிய விலங்குகளின் பட்டியல் கொடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. யூதர்களுக்கு தூய்மை என்பது கண்ணும், கருத்துமாக கடைப்பிடிக்க வேண்டிய ஒன்று. எனவே, எவற்றை சாப்பிட வேண்டும்? எவற்றை சாப்பிடக்கூடாது? என்ற வரைமுறைகளை வகுத்திருந்தனர். எந்த அளவுக்கு இதில் கவனமாக இருந்தார்கள் என்றால், தீட்டான உணவைச் சாப்பிடுவதை விட சாவதே மேல் என்று பலர் தங்கள் உயிரை மாய்த்துக்கொண்ட நிகழ்வை நாம் மக்கபேயர் நூலில் பார்க்கலாம். இரண்டாம் மக்கபேயர் புத்தகத்தில் பன்றி இறைச்சியைச்சாப்பிடக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தப்பட்ட சகோதரர்கள் ஏழுபேர், பன்றி இறைச்சியைச்சாப்பிட்டு தங்களை தீட்டுப்படுத்துவதை விட சாவதே மேல் என்று தங்கள் உடலைப்பல்வேறு சித்திரவதைகளுக்குக் கையளித்ததையும், அவர்களை அவர்களின் தாய் ஊக்கப்படுத்தியதையும் நாம் வாசிப்பது இதற்கு சிறந்த எடுத்துக்காட்டு. ஆனால், இயேசு வெளியிலிருந்து சாப்பிடக்கூடிய உணவு அல்ல, மாறாக, மனித எண்ணத்திலிருந்து தோன்றும் தீய சிந்தனைகள் தான் மனிதனைத்தீட்டுப்படுத்துகின்றன என்று சொல்கிறார். எண்ணங்கள் தான் செயல்பாடுகளுக்கு அடிப்படை என்று சொல்வார்கள். நம் எண்ணங்கள்...
