மத் 6 : 7 -15 தவக்கால ஆன்மீக முயற்சிகளில் (ஈதல், செபித்தல், நோன்பிருத்தல்) ஒன்றான செபித்தல் பற்றி இன்றைய நற்செய்தி விளக்குகிறது. ஆண்டவர் இயேசுவே நம் அனைவருக்கும் அனைத்திருக்குமான மாதிரியாக இருக்கின்றார் என்பதை அவர் கற்றுக் கொடுத்த செபத்தில் இருந்தும் நம்மால் கற்றுக் கொள்ள முடிகிறது. சில பிற சபையினர் இச்செபத்தைத் தினமும் எவ்வேளையும் சொல்லும் நம் தாய் திருஅவையினரைப் பார்த்து கேளி செய்வதுண்டு, ஏன் இவர்கள் திரும்ப திரும்ப சொல்கிறார்களென்று? இவர்கள் கேளியையும் கிண்டலையும் பார்த்து நாம் பின் வாங்கிட முடியாது. இவர்கள் இயேசுவையும் இறைவார்த்தையையும் கிண்டல் செய்கிறார்கள் என்பதே உண்மை. இயேசு கற்பித்த இச்செபமே தலை சிறந்த செபமாக இன்று உலகின் அதிக மொழிகளில் சொல்லப்படுகின்ற ஓர் முதன்மைச் செபமாகும். இதன் முதல்பகுதி, இறைவனின் இறையாட்சியை அதாவது இயேசு கண்ட கனவினை நோக்கி, இந்த உலகு உருண்டு நகர்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது என்பதை எடுத்துரைக்கின்றது. இதன் இரண்டாம் பகுதி...

“Then Jesus was led into the desert by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil.” —Matthew 4:1 I have wonderful memories of the graces of the first Sunday of Lent. I was also intrigued by Jesus being led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by Satan. I consider it a great insight that the first and fundamental temptation of Christ and Christians is the temptation to doubt the Spirit’s proclamation of our being sons or daughters of God the Father (Mt 4:3). “They shall call you, ‘Restorer of ruined homesteads.’ ” —Isaiah 58:12 One of the later catalytic effects of fasting is: “The ancient ruins shall be rebuilt for your sake, and the foundations from ages past you shall raise up; ‘Repairer of the breach,’ they shall call you, ‘Restorer of ruined homesteads’ ” (Is 58:12). Our culture of death is by definition a culture of broken relationships. We have mass-produced ruined homesteads. இயேசு லேவியைத் தன்னைப் பின்செல்லுமாறு அழைத்தது இன்றைய நற்செய்தியில் இடம்பெறுகின்றது. இயேசு பாவிகளுக்கு முன்னுரிமை கொடுக்கிறார், காணாமல் போன ஆட்டினைத் தேடி வருகிறார் என்பதை மட்டுமன்று, பாவியெனக் கருதப்பட்ட லேவி எவ்வாறு இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றினார் என்பதே இத்தவக்காலத் தொடக்கத்திலிருக்கும் நமக்கான பாடம். முதல் சீடர்களை அழைத்த போதும் லேவியைப் போன்று, “அனைத்தையும் விட்டுவிட்டு அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்” என்பதை அறிந்து கொள்ள முடியும். லேவி இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களிடமிருந்து அநியாயமாக வரிவசூலித்து உரோமை அரசுக்கு அளித்ததால் பாவியெனக் கருதப்பட்டார். மொத்தத்தில் அனைவரும் அவரை ஒதுக்கி வைத்தனர். அவரை எதிரியாகக் கூட கருதக் கூடாது என்பதில் தெளிவாயிருந்து அவரைப் பாவி என்று முத்திரை குத்தினர். இன்றும் நம்மில் சிலரை ஆன்டி-இந்தியன்;, சமூக விரோதிகள் என்று முத்திரை குத்துவது யூதர்களின் மனநிலையே. இப்படி அனைவராலும் வெறுத்து ஒதுக்கப்படுபவரையே ஆண்டவர் அழைக்கின்றார். அவர்களுடைய வீட்டிற்குச் சென்று விருந்து உண்ணுகின்றார். இதன் காரணம் லேவி இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்ற தான் பற்றியிருந்த...
