The homeless man clutched within his sun bleached hand a yellowed photo of a woman who might have been his mother. His entire worldly possessions lay near his battered shoes. His past, his present, perhaps his future. A tattered journal’s pages rustled in the wind, speaking memories of days long past. A small bag of faded clothing, a frayed sleeping bag. A barren coffee cup, which might have once held hope. I watch the front doors of the shelter swing open. Today, we pray for those who have abandoned their faith

Lord Jesus, today we bring to You the ones who have left Your fold by willful choice. Lord, we pray for our dear ones who do not want to recognise You or worship You as God. We bring to You their doubts, anxieties, confusion and pain. We trust in Your mercy that they will be brought back and redeemed like pure silver. A prayer also for those of us who are standing by longingly and waiting for their return.Strengthen us when we feel helpless over them. Give all of us Your power, grace and peace. Amen.
