யூதர்களைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் தங்களது நாடு கடவுளால் சிறப்பாக தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட நாடு என்ற எண்ணம் இருந்தது. மற்றவர்களை தாங்கள் ஆளுவதற்காகவே பிறந்தவர்கள் என்கிற சிந்தனையும் அவர்களின் உள்ளத்தில் இருந்தது. ஆனாலும், இது மனித வழிகளைக் கொண்டு நிறைவேற்ற முடியாது, கடவுளின் உதவியுடன் தான் நிறைவேற்ற முடியும் என்று நினைத்தனர். அதற்கான காலம் கனியும்போது, தாங்கள் நினைத்தது அனைத்தும் நடைபெறும் என்று நம்பினர். இந்த நம்பிக்கையுடன் வாழ்ந்தவர்கள் பலர் இருந்தார்கள். இதனைப்பற்றி பல கருத்துக்கள் மக்கள் மனதில் தங்கியிருந்தது. ஒரு சிலர் கடவுள் யாரையாவது அனுப்புவார் என்று காத்திருந்தனர். மற்றும் சிலர், கடவுளே நாம் எதிர்பார்க்காத முறையில் வந்து, அனைத்தையும் மாற்றுவார் என்று எண்ணினர். மற்றும் ஒருசிலர், இதுபோன்றதை நம்பாமல், விடாத செபத்திலும், நடப்பவற்றை அமைதியான முறையிலும் கவனத்தோடு கண்காணித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். நிச்சயமாக இயல்பாகவே கடவுளின் நாள் வரும் என்று நம்பிக்கையோடு எதிர்நோக்கியிருந்தனர். அதில் ஒருவா் தான் இன்றைய நற்செய்தியில் வரும் அன்னா என்கிற பெண்....
