எருசலேம் நகர் யூதர்களுக்கு முக்கியமான இடமாக விளங்கியது. அங்கேதான் யூத மக்களின் தலைசிறந்த மன்னராக விளங்கிய தாவீது தம் தலைநகரை அமைத்திருந்தார். அங்குதான் சாலமோன் மன்னர் கடவுளுக்கு அழகியதொரு கோவில் கட்டியெழுப்பினார். யூத மக்களின் சமய-சமூக மையமாக விளங்கிய எருசலேம் நகருக்கு வெளியேதான் இயேசு சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்டு உயிர்துறந்தார். எருசலேமுக்கு இயேசு எத்தனை தடவை சென்றார் என்பது பற்றித் தெளிவில்லை. எருசலேம் கோவிலுக்குள் நுழைந்து அங்கே வியாபாரத்தில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தோரை இயேசு விரட்டியடித்த செய்தியை எல்லா நற்செய்தி ஆசிரியர்களும் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளனர் (காண்க: மத் 21:12-17; மாற் 11:15-19; லூக் 19:45-48; யோவா 2:13-22). அந்த நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு முன் இயேசு ”எருசலேமைப் பார்த்து அழுதார்” (லூக் 19:41) என்னும் செய்தியை லூக்கா குறிப்பிடுகிறார். எருசலேம் நகரம் அழிந்துபடும் எனவும் இயேசு முன்னறிவிக்கிறார். இயேசு அறிவித்தபடியே, கி.பி. 70ஆம் ஆண்டில் தீத்து என்னும் உரோமை மன்னரின் படைகள் எருசலேமுக்குள் புகுந்து ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மக்களைக் கொன்று குவித்தன;...

Lord Jesus, today we bring to You our disappointments with God, the Church and Christians. The many tears, the countless unanswered prayers, the rejection, the insults, the endless waiting for a miracle from heaven – we surrender them all to You, Lord; not with anger, but with true submission and humility. We identify ourselves with Your apostles and Mother Mary, who waited and mourned before that glorious resurrection Sunday. Lord Jesus, turn our worst disappointments into Your biggest miracles. Amen.
