பழங்காலத்தில் மக்கள் தீய ஆவிகள் காற்று மண்டலத்தில் இருப்பதாக நம்பினர். அவைகள் உணவு மற்றும் தண்ணீர் வழியாக மனிதர்களின் உடலுக்குள் புகுவதற்கு வாய்ப்பிருக்கிற என்பது அவர்களின் எண்ணம். எகிப்தியர்களின் நம்பிக்கைப்படி, நமது உடலில் 36 பாகங்கள் வழியாக தீய ஆவிகள் உடலுக்குள் ஊடுறுவமுடியும். ஒவ்வொரு பாகங்களையும் குறிப்பிட்ட தீய ஆவிகள் கட்டுப்படுத்துகிறது என்றொரு நம்பிக்கையும் மக்கள் மனதில் இருந்தது. இப்படிப்பட்ட தீய ஆவி ஒன்றைத்தான் இயேசு அந்த மனிதரிடமிருந்து ஓட்டுகிறார். பழங்காலத்தில் தீய ஆவிகளை ஓட்டுவதற்காக மந்திரவாதிகள் பல செய்முறைகளைப்பின்பற்றினர். உதாரணமாக, பேய்பிடித்தவரின் மூக்கில் வளையம் ஒன்றை மாட்டி, சில மந்திரச்சொற்களை உச்சரித்து பேய் ஓட்டுவர். அதேபோல் ஒரு வகையான செடியின் வேரை, பேய் பிடித்தவரின் அருகே கொண்டுபோக, பேய் ஓடிவிடுவதாகவும் நம்பினர். இப்படி சில செய்முறைகள் மூலமாக பேய்களை ஓட்டுகிறவர்கள் மத்தியில், “வாயை மூடு, இவரைவிட்டு வெளியே போ” என்கிற வெறும் வார்த்தைக்கு, தீய ஆவிகள் கட்டுப்பட்டு ஓடுவதைக்கண்டுதான், இயேசுவை...

திருத்தூதரான புனித அந்திரேயாவின் விழாவை இன்று நாம் கொண்டாடுகிறோம். இவர் பேதுரு சீமோனின் சகோதரர். மீன் பிடிப்பவர். இவரை இயேசு சந்தித்து என் பின்னே வாருங்கள். உங்களை மனிதரைப் பிடிப்பவர் ஆக்குவேன் என்று அழைத்தார். அந்த அழைப்பை அந்திரேயா உடனே ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். தன் சகோதரர் பேதுருவுடன் இணைந்து வலைகளை விட்டுவிட்டு இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றினார். இயேசுவும் அவரைத் திருத்தூதராக்கி, இறையாட்சிக்காக மனிதரைப் பிடிக்கும் மீனவராக மாற்றினார். இந்த நாளில் புனித அந்திரேயாவின் மாதிரியை நாமும் பின்பற்றுவோம். அழைப்பைக் கேட்டதும் வலைகளை விட்டுவிட்டு இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள் என்ற வரிகள் அவர்களின் செவிமடுத்தலின் தன்மையை விளக்குகின்றன. இயேசுவின் சீடர்கள் தேவையற்றவைகளை விட்டுவிட்டு அவரைப் பின்பற்ற வேண்டும். நம் வாழ்வின் வலைகள் என்ன என்பதைக் கண்டு, அவற்றை விட்டுவிட்டு, இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றுவோம். மன்றாடுவோம்: அழைத்தலின் நாயகனே இயேசுவே, அந்திரேயாவை உம் சீடராகப் பெயர் சொல்லி அழைத்ததுபோல, என்னையும் அழைத்ததற்காக நன்றி. அந்திரேயாவைப்போல அனைத்தையும் விட்டுவிட்டு உம்மைப் பின்தொடரும்...
